Who is
eligible to join? The Employee Benefit Program is
available to Central Interior Logging Association, Interior Logging
Association, and North West Loggers Association members. As an
industry-run plan, it will focus on your specific needs and
concerns. |
How many
employees do I need to join? There is no minimum number of employees.
The plan is available to all full-time employees, from a one-person
operation to companies with hundreds of employees. |

Benefits |
Life
Insurance In the event of death by any cause, the employee's
beneficiary will receive a benefit amount of $10,000 Economy Plan,
$50,000 Basic Plan & Enhanced Plan $75,000. Members can buy
additional coverage at group rates, if the insurer
approves. |
Accidental Death &
Dismemberment Should the employee die accidentally, his or her
beneficiary will receive an additional $10,000 Economy Plan, $50,000
Basic Plan & Enhanced Plan $75,000. Part of this entire amount
may be payable if an employee is dismembered or paralyzed by an
accident. Greater amounts are available at the employee's
discretion. |
Extended Health Care The Extended Health Care
benefit is designed to supplement, not replace, BC Medical Services
Plan coverage. The deductible is $50 per family per calendar year
under all plans. $5 per prescription deductible under all
plans.
After the deductible is satisfied, the plan will
reimburse the employee for 80% of eligible in-province expenses, and
100% of eligible out-of-province expenses. Eligible expenses include
prescription drugs, paramedical services (chiropractor,
physiotherapist, etc.), semi-private hospital and out-of-Canada
emergency coverage. |
Vision Care The Enhanced Plan (only)
reimburses Vision Care expenses to $150 every 24
months. |
Dental
Care The plan will reimburse the employee for 80% of all
Basic Services such as checkups, x-rays, cleaning and fluoride
treatments and fillings, and for 50% of all major services such as
crowns and bridgework. The annual combined maximum for economy &
basic plans is $1,200 per person.
The Enhanced Plan pays up
to $1,300 annually, and reimburses 50% of dependant children's
orthodontic expenses, to a lifetime maximum of
$2,000. |
Long
Term Disability If the employee remains
disabled from an accident or illness, and is unable to perform his
or her own job, the plan will pay 66.6% of regular monthly earnings,
to a maximum of $1,400 on Basic Plan & $1,600 on the Enhanced
Plan.
The benefit payments begin after 52 weeks of
disability (Enhanced Plan--after 26 weeks).
After one year
of disability, if the employee remains disabled and unable to
perform any job for which he is educated, trained or qualified,
benefit payments will continue until he reaches age 65, returns to
work, retires, or dies, whichever is
earlier. |
Weekly
Indemnity If an employee is disabled by a non-work related
accident or illness and cannot work, the plan will pay 66.6% of
regular weekly earnings, to a maximum of $413 (Enhanced Plan-$600).
Benefits start from the 1st day of an accident or 6th day of illness
and continue for up to 52 weeks (Enhanced Plan-26
weeks). |
Medical
Travel (within Canada)* If an employee has to travel
1,000 km or more (round trip), to receive care recommended by a
physician, the plan will reimburse up to $2,000 (lifetime) for
transportation and lodging, for the patient and a travel
companion. *The above forms a part of the basic and enhanced EHC
benefit for CILA and NWLA members only. |
How much do the plans
cost? * Economy Plan monthly premium is $111.00
* Basic Plan monthly premium is $192.75 *
Enhanced Plan monthly premium is $233.62 * Owners/Managers
Plan by Individual. |
Do all my employees have to
join? An employee who has Health or Dental coverage through
a spouse's benefit plan, may opt out of the Health and Dental
benefits only and enroll in the other benefits provided in the
plan. |
Does the employee have to pass a medical
exam to enroll? No. Medical information is not required for
enrollment in the Employee Benefit Program. An employee who applies
for additional Optional Life coverage must fill out a medical
questionnaire. |
Are employees covered while on vacation in
the USA? Yes. The plan provides coverage worldwide, beyond
that provided by the BC Medical Services Plan, for hospital and
physicians up to what is reasonable and customary in the area where
treatment is received. |
What if an employee
has an accident while snowmobiling and can't work for a
while? The Weekly Indemnity coverage will pay 66.6% of
regular weekly pay, up to 26 or 52 weeks depending on the plan
chosen. If the employee remains disabled thereafter, the employee
may apply for Long Term Disability benefits. |
